ZANU PF legislators have called for the expediting of the Private Voluntary Organisation (PVO) to protect Zimbabwe cultural values, enable transparency and prevent toxic political environment.

Speaking to this publication, Gutu East Legislator Ganyiwa said, a safety net needs to be put to protect Zimbabwe’s cultural values.

“We have been debating about the PVO Bill, the issue here is about us making sure that we put a safety net regarding cultural dilution, as well as making sure that we are not in any way compromising when it comes to our cultural values that should be preserved,” said Ganyiwa.

Furthermore, Legislator Ganyiwa said those who intend to help us should not enforce policies, regulations and laws on us, but listen to those they intend to help.

“On political grounds, we cannot accept everything that comes from the West or anyone who intends to come with the purpose of helping us. If you want to help us you have to also listen to the person you intend to help other than to enforce policies, regulations, rules and laws that are used elsewhere. Otherwise, if we do not protect our integrity, culture we will end up being with an undesirable political situation that is very toxic,” Legislator Ganyiwa said.

Zvimba South MP Dexter Malinganiso, also noted that, Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) need good supervision to stop them from meddling in politics and the PVO Bill offers the safety net administration.

Another ZANU PF Mazowe Central Legislator, Maxmore Njanji said, PVOs need to be regulated for them to stick to their mandate.

“PVOs need to be regulated at a higher level since some of them abuse funds from donors for personal gain. It is important PVOs operate in good faith, sticking to their mandate and be transparent for they are not affected by the new amendments,” said Njanji.

Ganyiwa, highlighted that President Mnangagwa is very clear in making sure that we formulate policies within the House of Assembly that are cultural related, that also preserve and safeguard our culture.

Meanwhile, the PVO Bill is back at Parliament to incorporate recommendations and necessary adjustments from the public hearings that were conducted, before its sent to the President.

The PVO Bill will also curb terrorism which has profoundly affected some countries socio-economically. The Bill will not affect law abiding organisations but will deal with criminals using charity as a cover.
