The Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme has stirred development in Ward 6 of Dema, in Seke constituency.
In an interview with this publication, Member of Parliament (MP) for Seke Constituency, Munyaradzi Tobias Kashambe indicated that they are fully prepared to develop rural communities by providing clean water and rural electrification.
“Seke is a peri-urban area, meaning it is relatively close to town. Our focus is on modernisation rather than urbanisation. We have plans to deliver rural electrification while simultaneously providing tapped water and recreational facilities,” said Kashambe.
In his second term as MP, Kashambe said he has embarked on a rural developmental program which will see the constituency benefiting from construction of clinics, community gardens and road rehabilitation.
"Some of our projects have already been completed, while others are halfway through. Currently, we have ten community gardens and intend to employ about 10,000 individuals from our local communities.
“The Government has also supplied computers to local schools as a way of encouraging them to modernize and use ICT technologies,” Kashambe added.
Moreover, the villagers highlighted on how the drilling program has helped the community relieve poverty and hunger by allowing them to engage in income-generating ventures.
“We used to walk long distances to fetch water, all thanks to President Mnangagwa for bringing taped water to our door step. The community will greatly benefit from our local community garden, this is an opportunity for our children to gain employment,” said Murera, one of the local villagers.
Meanwhile, MP Kashambe said that he is also in the process of constructing a clinic for the Marikopo community using devolution funds.
