Political analysts applauded Minister Chombo stance on PVOs

Political analysts have lauded the firm stance, taken by the Mashonaland West Province, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Marian Chombo for Private Voluntary Organizations (PVOs) to adhere to the country’s laid down laws and regulations in their efforts to collaborate with Government in the fight against the El Nino induced drought. 

Minister Chombo made the call to Non-Government Organisations (NGOs), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and other PVOs during a meeting that was held in Mashonaland West recently.

Speaking to this publication, Elton Ziki, a political analyst, praised Minister Chombo's approach in reminding the PVOs of their expected conduct in line with the country’s laws and regulations.

"Minister Chombo's reminder to PVOs to observe the country's laws and regulations is crucial in fostering good cordial relations between these organizations and the Government," said Ziki.

Political analyst, Calvin Chitsunge commended Minister Chombo for emphasizing on compliance among PVOs with emphasis on the significance of transparency and accountability in operations.

"Reminding PVOs to be compliant with the Government ensures transparency and accountability, which are essential for effective collaboration," Chitsunge added.

The advice comes at a time when hearings on the PVO Bill are underway across the country. The proposed Bill seeks to address existing loopholes and ensure transparency and alignment of PVO operations with national interests. Key provisions include combating money laundering and terrorism financing, streamlining administrative procedures for registration and regulation, and empowering the Registrar of PVOs to penalize non-compliant organizations.

Meanwhile, Minister Chombo's proactive stance, coupled with the on-going legislative efforts, underscores the Government's commitment to promoting accountability and transparency in the partnership between PVOs and the State.
