Hurungwe District in Mashonaland West Province, is witnessing significant infrastructural development in road and bridge construction.
In an interview with this publication Acting Provincial Roads Manager for Mashonaland West Province, Munyaradzi Musiyamanja emphasized the on-going focus on constructing new roads and maintaining existing networks.
“We are dedicated to enhancing our road infrastructure, with a significant emphasis on the Karoi-Binga road. This project is pivotal for improving connectivity and supporting local economic activities," Musiyamanja stated.
Musiyamanja also mentioned the significance of the recently completed Musukwe Bridge in Chidamoyo, Hurungwe District.
“The new Musukwe Bridge is a crucial development, providing better access to Chidamoyo Mission Hospital and enhancing transportation for agricultural activities. This development replaces the previously limiting low-lying bridge, thus facilitating smoother travel and economic activities,” he said.
Councillor Edmore Nyamukumba of Ward 25, Hurungwe RDC commended the Government for embarking on the ambitious Karoi-Binga highway project that traverses his Ward, noting an increase in job creation benefiting the youths in his constituency.
"In alignment with the Karoi-Binga road construction project led by the Government, over 30 youths from Ward 25 have been employed, providing essential job opportunities to our community.
“The road rehabilitation programme by the Government has helped to tackle unemployment issues among the youth by involving them directly in the development of projects in their constituencies,” Nyamukumba added.
The rehabilitation of the Karoi-Binga road has also spurred the introduction of a daily bus service from Harare to Karoi as well as transport service, which facilitates the ferrying of perishable products for sale, has been a game-changer for the local economy.
“The new road has significantly improved the lifestyle of locals as they now have a daily bus service as well as a vibrant transport service, which has created new income opportunities through efficient transportation of fresh goods to the market,” Nyamukumba elaborated.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development is spearheading a comprehensive road rehabilitation programme across Zimbabwe. The Government allocated US$480 million for this initiative, targeting both urban and rural areas to revitalize infrastructure that has been damaged by heavy rains. Projects include the resurfacing of regional trunk roads and major highways, along with the reconstruction of vital bridges and drainage systems.
The road rehabilitation projects in Zimbabwe, including those in the Hurungwe District, reflect Government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure as a critical driver for economic development.
