The Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, and Rural Development's Youth Desk is now geared for a significant role at the upcoming Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), scheduled from April 23 to 27 in Bulawayo.
Under this year's theme, "Innovation: The Catalyst to Industrialisation and Trade," the event aims to spotlight the integration of innovative practices in agriculture to propel economic growth and trade.
Speaking to this publication, the Youth Desk Coordinator in the Ministry, Nickros Kajengo, stressed the profound importance of the ZITF in advancing youth empowerment in the agricultural sector.
"The trade fair is not merely an annual event; it's a strategic platform essential for showcasing the potential and capabilities of our youthful entrepreneurs in agriculture," explained Kajengo.
Kajengo added that as agriculture continues to sustain livelihoods for millions and substantially contributes to Zimbabwe’s GDP, the Fair would be crucial in cultivating international partnerships and highlighting the country's economic opportunities.
Kajengo said that this year the Youth Desk is determined to shift the role of young individuals from mere spectators to active contributors at the ZITF. The department is spearheading initiatives that foster youth participation, innovation, and skill development in agriculture.
"Our objective is to bring to the forefront the talents, skills, and innovative projects of young farmers and agripreneurs. This includes exhibitions featuring cutting-edge agricultural technologies, sustainable farming methods, and value-added agricultural products," added Kajengo.
According to Kajengo, the Fair will provide a dynamic platform for youth-led initiatives, aiming to inspire and motivate more young people to pursue careers in agriculture and related industries.
“By leveraging the collective talents and energy of the youth, women, and key stakeholders within the sector, the ZITF is poised to significantly influence the future of agriculture in Zimbabwe. It seeks to drive sustainable development, enhance food security, and ensure economic stability across the region,” said Kajengo.
Meanwhile, through such platforms, Zimbabwe is not only showcasing its commitment to agricultural advancement but also positioning itself as a leader in sustainable and innovative agricultural practices on the international stage.
