Government has committed to continuing its training programmes for individuals engaged in agricultural enterprises in a sustained effort to bolster the nation's agricultural sector.

Speaking to this publication, the Chief Programmes Coordinator of the Youth Desk at the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, and Rural Development, Nickros Kajengo, emphasised the critical importance of capacity-building workshops organised by the Ministry to empower young Zimbabweans with the necessary skills to contribute effectively to the country’s development.

"On the vital role of capacity building, it is of utmost importance to empower and train individuals involved in agricultural enterprises to enhance their skills and knowledge. This will ultimately contribute to the growth and sustainability of these sectors," said Kajengo.

Kajengo added that recognising the youth's role in the independence, sovereignty, and national development of Zimbabwe is essential.

"Regarding the youth, it is essential to recognise their role in the independence, sovereignty, and national development of our country. The youths possess innovative ideas, energy, and enthusiasm, making them an invaluable asset. Therefore, it is necessary to provide them with adequate opportunities and platforms to contribute to the nation,” said Kajengo.

Kajengo further detailed that addressing the challenges faced by youths, such as hunger, unemployment, and drug abuse, requires expedited action.

"In order to address these challenges, it is paramount to expedite the establishment of Youth Business Units, provide financial support, involve them in policy decision-making, prioritise their needs in land allocation, and strengthen Provincial Youth Hubs," he explained.

He outlined the Government's ambitious plans to establish 35,000 Village Business Units (VBUs), 4,800 Youth Business Units (YBUs), 10,000 Small Business Units (SBUs), and also support Innovation business Units (IBUs).

Moreover, the Ministry has organised a series of capacity-building workshops across the country, aligning with President Mnangagwa's mantra of leaving no one and no place behind in terms of development.

A recent successful workshop in Rushinga saw thousands of youths equipped with life-changing skills, and some participants were provided with starter packs to kickstart their agricultural projects.

These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to empower the youth, ensuring they are well-prepared to tackle the challenges of tomorrow and to play a significant role in the economic and social advancement of Zimbabwe.
