Preps a gear up for grand 2024 Independence Day celebrations.

The groundwork for the Independence Day festivities and the much-anticipated Children’s Party were advancing smoothly, with substantial progress noted in civil works at the main venue at Murambinda, Buhera District, a Cabinet Minister has announced.

This was said by Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister, Dr Jenfan Muswere, during t post-cabinet briefing in Harare yesterday.

He said the meticulous planning encompasses extensive civil works on key access roads, including the Murambinda-Birchenough Bridge, Chivhu-Nyazura, and Hwedza-Mutiweshiri roads, aiming to ensure seamless accessibility for the throngs of citizens expected to partake in the celebrations.

"Road equipment has been mobilised from road authorities and the private sector to execute civil works at the main venue and on the three access roads,” said Minister Muswere.

In addition to the road works, Minister Muswere revealed that Government had undertaken the drilling of 22 boreholes in Buhera District, including 17 wet holes, to accommodate the needs of the attendees.

Efforts also extend to environmental conservation, with tree planting initiatives underway at the school orchard and a 3-hectare general plantation area, raising the total planted trees to 8, 000.

Meanwhile, yesterday, Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary, Nick Mangwana, took to his X space to announce the mobilisation of learners from all provinces for the Children's Party.

Political commentator Calvin Chitsunge said that the comprehensive preparations underscore the nation's resolve to celebrate its sovereignty and the strides made since independence.

Chitsunge added that with the meticulous planning and the collaborative effort of the Government and private sector, the 2024 Independence Day celebrations and Children’s Party promise to be a momentous occasion, reflecting Zimbabwe's unity, cultural richness, and progressive spirit.

This year's Independence Day commemorations will be held under the theme “Zim@44: Unity, Peace, and Development towards Vision 2030.”
