President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa will head to Mashonaland Central Province on April 6, 2024, to lead victory celebrations following his resounding triumph in last year's polls.
In the 2023 presidential elections, President Mnangagwa secured 52.6% of the total votes, with his closest rival, former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa, polling at 44% of the votes.
Speaking to this publication yesterday, ZANU PF Mashonaland Central Provincial Chairperson Kazembe Kazembe revealed that April 6th has been earmarked as the date for the national Thank-You Rally.
"We had two inter-district meetings in Mt Darwin and Shamva to thank the people for the sterling work they did to ensure victory for President Mnangagwa and ZANU PF. Most importantly, I am pleased to announce that President Mnangagwa will be visiting Mashonaland Central on April 6th to express his gratitude to the people for their unwavering support,” said Kazembe.
Kazembe confirmed that the celebrations would be hosted in Bindura, with arrangements underway to ensure a memorable event. However, there are reports that the celebrations might be held in Shamva to thank the people of Shamva for voting overwhelmingly for the Party and President Mnangagwa in last year’s polls.
Kazembe said that the choice of Mashonaland Central for the national victory celebrations stems from its remarkable performance in the 2023 harmonised elections, where it reaffirmed its identity as the heartland of the revolutionary Party’s politics.
Last year, the province emerged victorious, securing a clean sweep of all eighteen constituencies and delivering a resounding Presidential vote percentage in favour of President Mnangagwa.
Political commentator Calvin Chitsunge said that President Mnangagwa's visit to Mashonaland Central signifies not only a gesture of gratitude but also an opportunity to reinforce the Party's unity and solidarity with its supporters.
“It serves as a testament to the President's dedication to acknowledging and appreciating the efforts of grassroots supporters who played a pivotal role in securing victory for ZANU PF,” said Chitsunge.
As preparations for the celebrations gather momentum, anticipation builds among residents of Mashonaland Central, eager to welcome their esteemed leader and celebrate the achievements of the ruling Party.
The upcoming rally promises to be a momentous occasion, marking a significant milestone in Zimbabwe's political landscape and reaffirming the enduring bond between the people and their leadership.
