Members of the Veterans Activist Association (VAA), an MDC aligned cabal, are fighting hard to replace the youthful Nelson Chamisa with Divine Mafa, a United States of America based MDC member.
VAA is blaming Chamisa, together with the MDC National Acting Chairperson Morgen Komichi and MDC Director of Elections, Murisi Zwizwai for their party’s poor performance during the 30 July 2018 harmonised elections.
The three MDC officials are being blamed for imposing candidates, accepting bribes and intentionally side-lining popular candidates who were nominated by that party’s supporters during primary elections, among other issues.
Some of the case where the MDC Alliance leader is accused of undemocratically imposing candidates is that of Vimbai Tsvangirai Java in Glen-View South and Joanna Mamombe in Harare West to contest as Members of Parliament in those areas which was against the will of party supporters.
The veterans alleged that Komichi and Zwizai received bribes at St Mary’s Zengeza, Mutare Central and Dangamvura Chikanga constituencies.
Apparently, the VAA is marketing the candidature of Mafa to challenge Chamisa in the forthcoming MDC congress.
Already there is another faction in the MDC that is pushing for the elevation of MDC secretary general, Douglas Mwonzora to the post of party president, asserting that Chamisa has failed them.
Divine Mafa is the son of MDC Alliance spokesperson for Bulawayo Province, Felix Mafa Sibanda who has been tipped to deputise Chamisa. In July this year, Sibanda labelled Chamisa a dictator after he imposed candidates in many constituencies countrywide.
