Reports of a brewing power struggle within Nelson Chamisa's political circle have surfaced, with Amos Chibaya and Prince Dubeko Sibanda reportedly joining forces against Gift Siziba, indicating a rift that could jeopardise camp cohesion.
According to a source close to the matter, Chibaya and Dubeko have expressed discontent with Siziba's escalating influence within Chamisa's inner circle.
The duo has reportedly voiced their concerns to Chamisa, urging him to curb Siziba's growing dominance, particularly in provincial assembly meetings.
"Chibaya and Dubeko are unsettled by Siziba's increasing sway over Chamisa's decisions. They believe Siziba's speeches in the assembly meetings are fueling discord among Chamisa's supporters," said the source.
In their appeal to Chamisa, the duo allegedly demanded clarity on the protocol for addressing provincial assembly gatherings.
"Chibaya and Dubeko implored Chamisa to intervene and clarify who should address the meetings. They argue that Siziba's utilisation of these platforms to bolster his political stature was detrimental to the unity of the Chamisa camp," the source disclosed.
However, another insider hinted at deeper motivations underlying the power struggle.
The source suggested that the clash for supremacy within Chamisa's faction could escalate into a full-blown confrontation, as both Chibaya and Siziba harbour aspirations for key leadership positions.
"The tug-of-war between Chibaya and Siziba extends beyond mere disagreement. Both individuals are eyeing the vice presidency position within Chamisa's anticipated new political formation," the source stated.
According to the source, Dubeko's collaboration with Chibaya highlights their perception of themselves as key allies of Chamisa, with Dubeko eyeing the coveted national chairman position in the forthcoming party to be launched by Chamisa.
Despite the discord, some observers argue that Siziba's continued involvement in the provincial assembly meetings serves a valuable purpose.
"While Chibaya and Dubeko may question Siziba's motives, his presence adds substance to the discussions. Both Chibaya and Dubeko lack the oratory finesse displayed by Siziba and often veer off-topic when addressing people," remarked political commentator Calvin Chitsunge.
Meanwhile, the emerging divisions within Chamisa's camp threaten to undermine the cohesion of his anticipated political venture.
With power struggles intensifying and key figures vying for prominence, Chamisa faces the daunting challenge of quelling internal discord to ensure the viability of his new political formation.
