The residents of Mkoba North constituency have declared their determination not to repeat the mistake of voting for an opposition legislator in the forthcoming by-elections on Saturday.
Disgruntled by the lack of meaningful development under the tenure of the previous opposition representative, Amos Chibaya, people from the constituency are now shifting their allegiance, in the upcoming Mkoba North by-elections.
Voices from Mkoba North resonated with disappointment as residents aired their grievances against Chibaya's tenure.
Peter Musoni, echoing the sentiments of many, by expressing scepticism towards opposition candidates, stating, "I know Chibaya won't be on the ballot this time, but I won't vote for an opposition legislator again. We have learnt from Chibaya that they are only in politics to line their pockets."
Miriam Kamuriwo, who had previously cast her vote for the Citizens Coalition for Change candidate, candidly admitted a change of heart.
She attributed her shift to the confusion witnessed within opposition parties in Zimbabwe, stating she would vote for ZANU PF's Edgar Ncube in the forthcoming by-election.
The disillusionment was further illustrated by Theresa Mbwembwe, who criticized Chibaya's long tenure without tangible development.
"Chibaya has been our legislator for years, yet meaningful development is scarce. The library he built at Mkoba 6 is now in a dilapidated state. Even without Chibaya on the ballot, we won't make the mistake of voting for another underperforming opposition legislator," she asserted.
On the other hand, ZANU PF candidate, Cde …..Ncube exuded confidence in securing the constituency’s support come Election Day.
Cde Ncube's recent philanthropic endeavours, that included a substantial donation of 10 kgs of mealie meal packets to the needy in the constituency, have garnered attention and potentially swayed sentiments in his favour.
Cde Ncube, in a demonstration of commitment to the community, recently organised health expos where residents with various ailments received free treatment and medication.
This proactive engagement has not only solidified his candidature, but also instilled hope in the minds of Mkoba North residents, seeking a representative dedicated to genuine progress and community welfare.
