Political analysts have voiced serious concerns about the internal dynamics of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), suggesting a notable lack of coordination and confusion within that party.
The controversy ignited when the deputy spokesperson of CCC confirmed the formation of a new party on X, only to be swiftly contradicted by Promise Mkwananzi, the CCC spokesperson.
In an exclusive interview with this publication, Elton Ziki a political analyst suggested that there are deeper issues within CCC’s leadership structures, emphasizing the lack of cohesion among CCC leaders. Ziki pointed out that the contradictory statements by the two spokespersons reflected Chamisa's failure to put his house in order.
"The contradictory statements by Ostallos and Mkwananzi show that there is a lack of cohesion between party leaders because how can the spokesperson and deputy of the same party issue out contradictory statements with regards to that party’s political dynamics,” Ziki stated
Furthermore, Ziki expressed apprehension about CCC's political acumen saying that the announcement of a new party by CCC indicates a sign of desperation on Chamisa's part to portray an alternative when, in reality, there may not be one.
"The announcement of the formation of a new party by CCC indicates a sign of desperation by Chamisa to try and show that there is an alternative for CCC when in actual fact there isn't, proving again that Chamisa lacks acute knowledge on politics,” the analyst criticized.
Adding on, Ziki highlighted concern over the fluidity within CCC, attributing the perpetual electoral mode in the country to the party's internal disarray. He argued that the country had been burdened with continuous by-elections in 2024, hindering both time and resources that could have been allocated for national development.
"Due to the dynamic nature within the CCC camp, the nation has remained consistently in election mode, impeding both time and resources that might have otherwise been allocated for the country's development programs." Ziki said.
Another political analyst, Gibson Nyikadzino highlighted that the on-going confusion indicates that CCC may not be fully formed, and the party seems to be testing the waters before making a concrete decision.
He remarked, “If CCC proceeds to form a new party, it would reinforce the perception that the party is shrouded in confusion, and Chamisa’s strategic ambiguity is continuing to backfire.”
Chamisa's consistent display of lack of political acumen has been evident since his affiliation with the MDC-Alliance. This trend continues within the CCC and is expected to persist even in the prospective formation of a new party. The assertion is that voters are now recognizing the internal confusion within CCC, solidifying the perception that the party is in disarray and led by a leader perceived as lacking strategic insight.
