The recent hike in annual registration fees for medical and dental practitioners by the Medical and Dental Private Practitioners of Zimbabwe Association (MDPPZ) has been reversed. This swift and decisive action by the Government is a cause for celebration, a victory for healthcare accessibility, and a resounding affirmation of its commitment to the well-being of its citizens.
MDPPZ president Johannes Marisa welcomed the move and paid tribute to the Minister of Health and Child Care, Douglas Mombeshora.
“We took our fight as MDPPZ to the minister concerning the fees charged from the Health Professional Association to councils and its now bearing fruit,” said Marisa.
He further stated that this effort was made possible by the Second Republic of President Emmerson Mnangagwa since over the years the health practitioners had no such platforms that represented them.
“Over the years medical practitioners would just sit on their laurels and grumble among themselves without taking action. There were no formal complaints raised because there were no such platforms as MDPPZA and fortunately we have a minister who is listening to our grievances and taking action,” he added.
One doctor from Mutare known as Doctor Chenai Dondo applauded the development saying it was a swift and a responsible stance by the Government.
“Let us applaud the Government for this swift and responsible action, and let us continue to work together, doctors, patients, and authorities alike, to ensure that access to quality healthcare remains the cornerstone of Zimbabwe's future,” said Doctor Dondo.
Meanwhile, a communiqué sent to MDPPZ members yesterday, stated that it was sticking to the old fees until further notice.
“This serves to advise the profession that the council in consultation with the Health and Child Care ministry has suspended the increase in annual fees and has reverted back to the 2023 fees until further notice,” read part of the letter.
This open communication is a testament to the Government's willingness to hear concerns and find solutions to the welfare of every citizen without leaving anyone or any place behind.
