Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa recently provided groceries to Gogo Tsvangirayi, the mother of the late MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirayi, this seemingly altruistic act is now facing criticism, with many questioning the motive behind Chamisa's gesture.

Chamisa's relationship with Gogo Tsvangirayi has reportedly been strained since 2018.  Allegedly, Gogo Tsvangirayi expressed her disapproval of Chamisa, stating that she wanted nothing to do with him and even threatening self-harm if he attended her son's funeral

Critics have voiced their concerns, Political Analyst Sandra Moyo said, "Chamisa's sudden generosity raises questions about the sincerity of his motives. Is this a genuine act of compassion, or a calculated move to win back public favour?”

Political commentator Thabani Ndlovu added that, "This gesture is too little, too late. Chamisa's track record speaks for itself, and no amount of groceries can erase the doubts about his leadership.

"Chamisa's attempt to repair his image through symbolic gestures may be seen by some as a desperate move. The public is astute and will not be easily swayed," said Ndlovu.

A CCC supporter, who spoke on the basis of anonymity said, "I was once a supporter, but actions like these make me question the authenticity of CCC's leadership. It feels like a publicity stunt rather than genuine concern for the people.”

According to critics Hopewell Chin’ono and Stephen Chan, Chamisa’s actions signify a desperate mission to revive his political standing by trying to align himself with the Tsvangirai family after so many years of abandoning them.

Meanwhile, some members of his party have suggested that Chamisa's grocery gesture may be an attempt to make amends for perceived failures in upholding the Tsvangirai project. The recent negative appraisals have left him seemingly "white-washed," prompting a scramble to regain credibility.
