Job Sikhala is reportedly laying the foundations for a new political movement from behind bars.
A source close to the developments has revealed that a pivotal rally is scheduled for this Saturday in Chitungwiza, aiming to both consolidate support for Sikhala and gauge the public's sentiment ahead of his expected formation of a new political party after his release.
The rally, which is being seen as a stepping stone for Sikhala's political aspirations, is set to make a statement about his influence and the loyalty he commands, even while being confined.
"The rally is not just about solidarity; it's a strategic barometer for measuring the support for Sikhala. There is a palpable sense that this is the precursor to something bigger, a new political chapter led by Sikhala himself," the source disclosed.
The source said that the rally, dubbed the Job Sikhala Solidarity Rally, would be addressed by Obert Masaraure, the National Chairperson for the Job Sikhala Solidarity Movement.
The source added that "Sikhala has been clear in his instructions from behind bars. He sees this rally as a critical step in his journey towards establishing his own political platform.”
The same source said that as preparations for the rally proceed, Masaraure has submitted an application to the Zimbabwe Republic Police seeking clearance for Saturday's event.
"Masaraure has been collaborating closely with the Sikhala family to ensure the rally's success, keeping the circle tight and involving only a select few like Freddy Masarirevu from the senior ranks of the CCC," the source added.
According to the source, in addition to the rally, Masaraure has been charged with the initiation of 'Wiwa Wednesdays' — a lecture series where individuals close to Sikhala will narrate stories of his life dedicated to opposition politics.
"All these efforts are intended to cultivate Sikhala's political support across the country, creating a solid foundation for the launch of his party once he is freed," the source explained.
The source claimed that Masaraure has been instrumental in forming committees focusing on mobilisation, communication, training, and solidarity.
"These committees are the operational limbs of Sikhala's vision, taking instructions directly from him to orchestrate a nationwide campaign," the source said.
While Sikhala remains in custody, accused of inciting protests over the brutal murder of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali by Pius Jamba in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza, his influence seems to be expanding beyond the prison walls and mostly affecting the CCC.
As the political landscape of Zimbabwe continues to evolve, the upcoming rally in Chitungwiza may not only signal a show of support for Sikhala but could also herald the emergence of a new political force.
