In a significant development for Zimbabwe's economic landscape, the Government has announced a major gas discovery in the Muzarabani Oil and Gas Project.
This discovery hailed as a monumental achievement, is the result of the combined efforts of the Government, Geo Associates, and their partners, Invictus Energy and One Gas Resources.
The Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Honourable Soda Zhemu, shared this groundbreaking news in a press statement yesterday.
The Minister detailed how the collaborative exploration efforts by Geo Associates, Invictus Energy, and One Gas Resources led to the identification of a substantial gas field in the Muzarabani region.
"The Government of Zimbabwe is thrilled to confirm the gas discovery in Muzarabani, achieved through the ongoing exploration activities by Geo Associates and its partners. This marks a significant turning point for Zimbabwe's energy sector and holds vast potential for our nation's economic and social upliftment," announced Minister Zhemu.
Minister Zhemu expressed optimism on the discovery's impact, emphasising its potential to diversify Zimbabwe's energy mix, enhancing energy security, and creating job opportunities.
"This discovery is set to reshape our country's economic landscape, offering new avenues for development and progress," he added.
However, Minister Zhemu also noted that, while the discovery of gas is a step forward, further exploration and evaluation are necessary to ascertain the presence of oil.
"We have confirmed a gas discovery, but the exploration for oil is still ongoing. We commit to maintaining transparency and will keep the nation updated on all developments," he stated.
This recent discovery in Muzarabani has garnered acclaim from economic analysts, who recognise its potential to significantly contribute to Zimbabwe's Vision 2030.
Economic analyst, John Moyo commented on the impact of this find, stating, "The Muzarabani gas discovery is a monumental leap for Zimbabwe, aligning with Vision 2030. Its potential to revolutionise the nation’s energy sector and stimulate economic growth is unprecedented."
