In a resounding testament to its commitment to pioneering advancements in academia, Midlands State University (MSU) has emerged as a leading figure in the realms of innovation, research, and technology within the country.
This prominent position was eloquently underscored by Vice Chancellor Professor Victor Muzvidziwa during his address at the esteemed 24th MSU Graduation Ceremony officiated by President Mnangagwa today.
Prof. Muzvidziwa's speech not only celebrated the university's remarkable achievements but also highlighted its vital role in driving socio-economic transformation through academic excellence and cutting-edge research.
Praising the institution's progressive strides, Prof. Muzvidziwa highlighted MSU's remarkable achievements in fostering a culture of innovation and research.
"The level of innovation exhibited by MSU students was world-class as it could be commercialised,” he stated.
He further elaborated on the university's dynamic approach: “The University’s research and innovation drive is gaining momentum, measured by the level of research activities and innovation endeavours within the University community at large."
According to Prof. Muzvidziwa, MSU's commitment to research and innovation is not just theoretical; it is evidenced by tangible advancements like the development of wireless traffic lights.
"Innovations in the wireless traffic lights for our roads could ease the country’s forex expenditure and reduce maintenance costs,” Prof. Muzvidziwa explained.
The Vice Chancellor proudly announced MSU's recent establishment of a Pathology and Research Centre and an industrial park.
These facilities have not only enhanced the university's research capabilities but have also garnered national recognition.
“This year alone, the University scooped several accolades at the momentous inaugural Presidential Innovation Fair and Excellence Awards,” he shared.
Prof. Muzvidziwa emphasised that the quality of graduates being nurtured at MSU is a testament to the institution's dedication to contributing to the socio-economic transformation of the country. He added that their achievements were a clear reflection of MSU's commitment to excellence in academia and research.
Prof. Muzvidziwa added that, in a move towards global integration, MSU has established links with universities in Cote d'Ivoire, Botswana, Russia, and Belarus, fostering a culture of international collaboration and learning.
Additionally, local partnerships with industry and commerce giants like Powertel and ZB Financial Holding have further enhanced MSU's outreach and impact.
Prof. Muzvidziwa's speech not only celebrated the accomplishments of MSU but also served as a call to action for other universities.
He urged them to engage in community outreach, collaborations, and partnerships, underscoring the importance of these efforts in achieving academic excellence and real-world impact.
