In a stunning revelation that has left many citizens and political analysts baffled, Promise Mkwananzi, the spokesperson for the opposition party Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), is reportedly planning to participate in a tender floated by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
The tender which aims to procure various police equipment and material, has attracted Mkwananzi's interest despite his party's frequent criticism of the police force and the Government.
According to an inside source, the ZRP is seeking companies capable of supplying items such as police uniforms, white shirts, leather police shoes, riot belts, riot caps, whistles, and handcuffs.
The source informed that Mkwananzi expressed interest in bidding for the tender.
"Promise (Mkwanazi) is looking to get a piece of this lucrative deal. He plans to front Tinos Mushayi to bid for the tender, and they intend to share the profits if they secure the contract," the source disclosed.
He further revealed that Mkwananzi and Mushayi were currently in the process of acquiring samples of the required items, setting themselves a deadline of November 7, 2023.
However, this move has sparked outrage and accusations of hypocrisy from various quarters, considering Mkwananzi's and the CCC’s usual stance against the police and Government.
"It is quite ironic that Mkwananzi, who, together with his party, has been vocal in condemning our police force and Government, now wants to supply items to the same entity they despise. This raises serious questions about their integrity and the consistency of their political stance," remarked political commentator Paidamoyo Mutsvairo.
In addition to this controversial venture, Mkwananzi is allegedly involved in a dubious scheme aimed at seizing control of valuable mass markets and municipal properties in Kadoma. At the heart of this scandal are two shelf companies suspected to be fronts for this covert operation, casting a shadow on the CCC leadership's transparency and ethics.
"Mkwananzi is working closely with Deven Levy on this scheme, with plans to refurbish and subsequently rent out these mass markets for profit. They are essentially exploiting their political influence for personal gain, which goes against the principles of transparency and accountability that they preach," the source stated.
While the CCC has not yet issued an official statement, the growing scandal is likely to cast a long shadow over their reputation, challenging their standing as a credible opposition force in the country.
