Preparations for the 2023 Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Day are at an advanced stage, with the theme for the commemorations already unveiled.
In a post-cabinet media briefing today, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Jenfan Muswere said this year's Anti-Sanctions Day will be held under the theme "Harnessing the Youth for Accelerated Socio-Economic Development in the Fight Against Sanctions."
"The nation is being informed that the SADC Anti-Sanctions Day will be held on 25 October 2023 under the theme 'Harnessing the Youth for Accelerated Socio-Economic Development in the Fight Against Sanctions,” Minister Muswere said.
According to Minister Muswere, the theme recognizes the youth's resilience, courage, fortitude and unflinching determination in the face of illegal sanctions.
Minister Muswere added that President Mnangagwa will deliver a televised keynote address to mark the Anti-Sanctions Day and the address will be distributed on all social media platforms, targeting the youth to enhance awareness of the negative impact of sanctions.
Minister Muswere said the youth have heeded President Mnangagwa's clarion call that "Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo/ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikhazi balo" (a country is built by its own people) and are playing a significant role in the development of the country.
Meanwhile, a number of Presidents in the SADC region recently took the opportunity at the recently held United Nations General Assembly to call for the removal of the illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the West.
The Presidents of South Africa and Namibia, among others, all spoke out against the sanctions, calling them unfair and unjustified.
The sanctions have been in place for over 20 years and have had a devastating impact on the Zimbabwean economy. They have also made it difficult for Zimbabwe to access essential goods and services.
The Zimbabwean Government has repeatedly called for the removal of the sanctions, arguing that they are hurting the people of Zimbabwe.
The 2023 Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Day is an important opportunity to raise awareness of the negative impact of the sanctions and to call for their removal. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the resilience and determination of the Zimbabwean people in the face of adversity.
