The Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Kazembe Kazembe, has indicated plans to launch an ambitious digital system in the near future, anchored on the Zimbabwe Population Register (ZPR). This progressive initiative promises to transform the delivery of Government services to citizens.
Addressing the gathering at the Civil Registry Department (CRD) headquarters in Harare, where he also launched four buses and the department's new logo, Minister Kazembe highlighted that the digital platform will significantly simplify processes for citizens.
This includes applying for national ID cards and biometric passports, registering childbirths, aiding security services in monitoring and apprehending criminals, and ensuring secure border crossings.
"This system will allow you to apply for your passport or anything on your phone," said Minister Kazembe.
He further expanded on the far-reaching implications of the system, noting its real-time integration with various Government services, thereby significantly reducing administrative red tape.
The Minister said that this, in turn, would expedite the sharing of information across departments, granting citizens effortless access to an extensive range of services online.
An outstanding feature of the system, as highlighted by the Minister, is its capacity to automate the birth registration process.
“It will seamlessly integrate with the Ministry of Health and Child Care, as well as with hospitals and other health facilities. This means that every time a child is born, the civil registration office will be instantly informed. Once the notification is done, a record is immediately created for the child, and an ID and birth record number are assigned to them," the Minister elucidated.
Minister Kazembe further unveiled that other State services, such as the state lotteries, national monuments, and archives, are set to be integrated with this advanced system.
Additionally, Minister Kazembe announced additional initiatives to bolster the integrity and efficiency of the Civil Registry Department. He stated that the department would soon be introducing corporate wear for its employees, aiming to curb corruption and ensure their easy identification.
On the topic of the four buses commissioned during the event, Minister Kazembe expressed optimism.
"These buses will play a pivotal role in enhancing efficiency and uplifting the morale of the workforce," he confidently stated.
Meanwhile, the newly launched initiatives are a testament to Zimbabwe's stride towards digital transformation and an enhanced service delivery model, all with the citizen's convenience at its core.
