The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, has been condemned for his plans to reverse the Land Reform Programme (LRP).
Speaking at a CCC campaign rally yesterday in Mkoba, Gweru, Chamisa promised his supporters that he would reverse the LRP and repossess farms from resettled black Zimbabweans, if he wins the Presidential elections in the 23 August 2023 Harmonized General Elections
“Nyaya yeland is an important point. Wese akabviswa paland anofanira kudzorerwa. Totangira ipapo,” said Chamisa. (The issue of land is important. Land will be given back to those who once owned it.)
One citizen from Nembudziya Growth point, Tendai Nyakotyo criticized Chamisa and labeled him a sellout and not capable of being a leader.
“The Zimbabweans have always said it, that they will never be led by a sellout. Chamisa is a sellout. How can he advocate for land to be given back to the former colonisers. This land belongs to us Zimbabweans. He must know that Zimbabwe will never be a colony again,” said Nyakotyo.
On its Twitter handle today, ZANU PF Youth League posted that land reversal would never happen highlighting that any attempt to interpose the nation`s historic revolution would be resisted.
“While he can be forgiven for always being unserious about national issues, it is very much problematic to hear such vitriolic statements being made around an issue so sacrosanct as our land. It will not happen.
“Any attempt to defile our historic revolution will be resisted and rejected. In the same year that Zimbabwe is boasting food sufficiency, where Zimbabwe is experiencing a record on tobacco production and a historic wheat yield it will take divine intervention to forgive anyone who tries to impinge the current progress. It will be resisted,” vowed the ZANU PF Youth League.
One netizen only identified as Matigari on Twitter lambasted Chamisa stating that he is a puppet of Western imperialism.
“Chamisa says land must be returned to white colonial settlers. We told you he is an Oppenheimer and white imperialist puppet fronting imperialist interests. He is finished, we will never allow this thing in our government. Land will never be returned to whites,” said Matigari.
Chamisa`s utterance for land reversal is against President Emmerson Mnangagwa`s desire to ensure the regularization of informal settlements in both urban and peri-urban housing developments on State and local authority land. On 22 April 2023, President Mnangagwa launched the Presidential Title Deed and Settlement Regularization Programme in Epworth after many residents had fallen prey to unscrupulous land barons.
The programme would be extended to cover growth points and rural service centers, in a move that is expected to accelerate rural infrastructure development and industrial transformation.
