Zimbabwe signed nine Memorandum of Understanding with the Republic of Malawi on the 11th Session of the Zimbabwe-Malawi Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC) which was held in Lilongwe Malawi from 28 to 30 May 2023.
Speaking during the 16th Post Cabinet Briefing yesterday, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa informed the nation that Zimbabwe and Malawi signed nine MoUs during the JPCC.
Minister Mutsvangwa revealed the nine MoUs as that concerning Cooperation in Local Government, MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Promotion of Community Development, Women Empowerment and Gender Affairs, MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Information Management, MoU on Energy Affairs Cooperation, MoU on Police Cooperation, MoU between the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) and the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC),and MoU between the Zimbabwe Inter-Africa News Agency (NEW ZIANA) and the Malawi News Agency (MANA).
The Minister further informed the nation about President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s visit to Malawi where he met his counterpart, President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.
According to Minister Mutsvangwa, the two Presidents’ discussed political, economic and social developments in both countries and evaluated the two countries` status of bilateral cooperation, conversed on the predominant historical ties that were of great importance to the ongoing relationship and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest and concern to the two countries.
Minister Mutsvangwa highlighted that the two Presidents underscored the need to maintain peace, security and stability on the continent.
“Regarding the security situation in Africa, the two Presidents underscored the need to maintain peace, security and stability on the continent. They affirmed their commitment to uphold the sovereignty and integrity of States, and to reject unconstitutional changes of Government as well as interference in domestic political processes of African countries by external forces,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
During the state visit, Zimbabwe and Malawi reaffirmed their commitment to support each other`s candidatures and positions at the regional, and multilateral fora.
Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa’s state visit to Malawi was in line with his Government’s mantra of engagement and re-engagement.
