Unprepared MDC-T seeks postponement of elections

Ill-prepared MDC-T party is seeking the postponement of this year’s elections so as to continue receiving political parties grants from the Government, this publication has learnt.

A source revealed that MDC-T held a caucus meeting last week at Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House and agreed that they should push for postponement of elections so that they continue receiving grants from Government.

“MDC-T held a caucus meeting at their headquarters last week and agreed to continue pushing for the postponement of elections so that they continue getting financial grants from the Government. They agreed that Hatfield legislator, Tapiwa Mashakada would move a motion in parliament to cause the postponement of elections,” said the source.

The same source also said that Mwonzora wants the motion pushed in the next Parliament sitting and has tasked his legislators to seek the motion’s support from their CCC and ZANU PF counterparts.

According to the source, Mwonzora revealed that MDC-T could not afford to contest in this year’s elections as that party was financially incapacitated.

"Mwonzora in the meeting highlighted that MDC-T was financially incapacitated and cannot afford to contest in this year’s elections. He said they would continue using both the courts and parliament to seek postponement of elections for at least two years to give the party room to strategize,” added the source.

The source added that there were serious disgruntlements within MDC-T as that party was failing to pay its workers while the National Standing Committee (NSC) were not getting their allowances as before.

Meanwhile, MDC-T is yet to hold primary elections for this year as Mwonzora has reportedly directed that he would appoint members to represent MDC-T in this year’s Harmonised General Elections.
