Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim national spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere has exposed her dirty links with a police detail stationed at Zimbabwe Republic Police’s (ZRP) Tomlinson Depot camp in Harare.
According to a source who spoke to this publication, Mahere, who is eyeing the Mt Pleasant constituency, revealed that she had established voter mobilisation teams that would be led by a police detail, Victor Simbarashe Chiutare.
The source added that Mahere confided in one of her friends that she had tasked Chiutare to mobilise police officers stationed at Tomlison Depot to vote for her and CCC in the forthcoming elections.
“Mahere said that she was working with a police officer, Chiutare to mobilise voters ahead of the impending elections. Chiutare is stationed at Tomlison Depot camp and he told Mahere that he was working tirelessly to convince his colleagues to vote for CCC this year,” said the source.
The same source added that Mahere further tasked Chiutare to identify point persons in other police camps within Mt Pleasant constituency so that they would mobilise other police officers to align themselves with CCC.
According to the source, Mahere promised Chiutare that in the event that CCC wins the forthcoming elections, he would be elevated to a senior position within the country’s police force.
However, political analyst Nobleman Runyanga said that it was unconstitutional and wrong for a police officer to be an active member of a political party as he was supposed to serve everyone, regardless of political affiliation.
“If it’s true that Chiutare is campaigning for CCC and Mahere, then his bosses should reprimand him as it is unconstitutional. Police officers are assets of the state that should not align themselves with any political party as they are expected to discharge their duties without looking at one’s political affiliation. Police officers should be apolitical,” said Runyanga.
Efforts to get a comment from Mahere were futile as her mobile phones were not reachable.
