Government has rescinded the newly gazetted Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act (PPDPAA), which kept details of some procurement processes from the public domain.
This followed a public outcry on the PDPAA that prohibited the disclosur
e to the public of the procurements procedure in the health sector.
In a press statement today, Government notified the public that the PDPAA had been rescinded as it had no standing at law.
“While further investigations are underway, Government wishes to advice the public that, on the instruction of His Excellency the President, the document in question has been rescinded as it has no standing at law, in policy and in terms of set Government procedures. It thus should be disregarded. Government remains committed as ever to managing a transparent public procurement policy and process, as required by the laws of the country,” read the statement.
Additionally, Government highlighted how the document was a legal nullity as it did not have authorization and signature of the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet.
“Upon further investigations, it has come to light that the so-called Government gazette notice is a nullity, having been published without authorization, and without the signature of the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, as is the norm” read the statement.
Meanwhile, the Government continues to fight corruption whenever it rears its ugly head by continually taking measures that show transparency in the use of the tax payers’ money.
