President Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged Zimbabweans to go out in their numbers and vote in defense of the national independence that was brought forth by the protracted liberation struggle.
Speaking at the National Heroes Acre during the burial of the late Cde Abraham Kabasa who succumbed to prostate cancer on the 29th of April 2023, President Mnangagwa urged Zimbabweans to shun violence in the forthcoming elections.
“The 2023 Harmonised General Elections are around the corner. As patriotic Zimbabweans, we must go out in numbers to vote in defense of the Independence brought about by cadres such as Cde Kabasa. As we prepare for the elections, I once again call upon every Zimbabwean to say No to violence. We want peace before, during and after the election period,” said President Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa further hailed the late Cde Kabasa’s patriotic personality while urging the nation to draw lessons from the departed hero.
“I urge our nation, to draw lessons from the patriotism, consistency and persistency of this departed gallant son of the soil. He was loyal to this country all his life. He remained a humble, dependable and trustworthy cadre who was always ready and available to serve both the Party, ZANU PF, and our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe,” said President Mnangagwa.
Furthermore, Maxwell Kabasa, son to the late hero, described his father as a man of respect, loving father and humble who demanded excellence from all who worked with him.
“My father was a man of respect who loved his family. He was humble and demanded excellence from those with whom he worked. My father loved young people, his passion was farming and he made us (his) children value the importance of land and loyalty to Zimbabwe,” said Maxwell Kabasa
The late national hero was a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Mudzi constituency (1980-1990), Central Committee Member, Governor for Mashonaland East Province (1990-1992). Comrade Kabasa is survived by his wife, Miriam and 11 children, 41 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
