No sacred cows in ZANU PF: Mutsvangwa

The recently-held ZANU PF primary elections demonstrated ZANU PF’s unwavering commitment to internal democracy.

Addressing the media after yesterday’s Politburo session, the ZANU PF National Spokesperson, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa said that the primary elections that saw some Party wigs falling by the wayside showed that there were no sacred cows in ZANU PF.

“The outcome of the elections came from the voters who are members of ZANU PF. It didn’t matter who you stood for in the Party, it didn’t matter where you stood in terms of proximity or distance from the President. This was a communion between the candidate and the voters and it was ensured in the process. One of the re-runs has served to confirm that the President had no sacred cows. One of your colleagues (in apparent reference to Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi) did not make it; he congratulated the woman comrade who came out tops. We have no losers and winners in ZANU PF,” he said.

Apart from Cde Ziyambi, another sitting legislators who failed to make it following last weekend’s reruns is Gokwe-Nembudziya MP, Cde Justice Mayor Wadyajena who lost to Cde Flora Buka. The Politburo yesterday reversed the earlier endorsement of Chipinge South legislator, Cde Enoch Porusimgazi as the winner after complaints that his opponent and primary elections winner, Cde Robert Nyemudzo brewed illicit beer.

Ambassador Mutsvangwa also confirmed names of other ZANU PF members who triumphed in the primary elections, at the same time reprimanding the private media outlets that published falsehoods by claiming that President Mnangagwa had directed that re-runs be conducted in constituencies of his preferred candidates.

Additionally, ZANU PF National Political Commissar, Dr Mike Bimha, said the Party was now done with the Party’s candidates selection process and shifting its focus to mobilising support ahead of the general elections.

“The Party has now put a lid on candidates’ selection with focus now centred on galvanising support ahead of the general elections, where the target is to attain at least 5 million votes. The primary elections for ZANU PF are over, we are now focusing on the road to the final victory,” said Dr Bimha.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Mutsvangwa said that the Independence Day celebrations which were held in Mt Darwin this week were a huge success. He said that the event would remain etched in the history books of the country.
