Preparations for the 43rd Independence Anniversary Celebrations to be held on April 18 in Mt Darwin are at an advanced stage with the theme for this year’s celebrations already announced.
Addressing Tuesday’s post-Cabinet briefing, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said that the Independence Day would be commemorated under the theme, ‘Zim@43: Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo /Ilizwe Lakhiwa Ngabanikazi Balo’.
“Cabinet wishes to inform the nation that the Independence Celebrations will be held on the 18th of April, 2023 at Mount Darwin High School in Mashonaland Central Province and will be running under the theme: Zim@43: Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo /Ilizwe Lakhiwa Ngabanikazi Balo,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
The Minister added that this year’s celebrations would kick start with a children’s party at Pfura stadium and over 1 500 children are expected to attend.
“In line with Government’s devolution and decentralisation thrust, the 2023 Children’s Party Celebrations will be held at Pfura Stadium, Mount Darwin Centre on the 17th April, 2023, while the 2023 Independence Anniversary Celebrations will be held on 18th April, 2023 at Mount Darwin High School, Mount Darwin Centre. Learners are being mobilised from all Provinces for the Children’s Party as well as providing entertainment and mass displays. An additional four hundred children will be drawn from the districts in the hosting province, bringing the total to 1 500 children,” added the Minister.
Minister Mutsvangwa further said that President Mnangagwa would lead in the planting of at least 43 trees on 17 April. An assortment of fruit trees are expected to be planted at the Mount Darwin High School orchard.
Meanwhile, the official Independence Day programme will start at 0600hrs and end at 1430hrs. Around 45 000 people are expected to attend the celebrations. Alick Macheso and Paradzai Mesi will provide entertainment for the main independence celebrations.
