Advocate Freddy Michael Masarirevhu’s calculative exploitation of the imprisoned Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim deputy national chairman’s predicament has come to light with reports saying that Masarirevu lied about Sikhala’s deteriorating health
.
In the last weeks, correspondent letters allegedly written by Sikhala circulated on various social media platforms indicating that his health had deteriorated, sparking suspicions that he might have colon cancer.
Speaking to this publication yesterday, a source within Sikhala’s trusted entourage revealed that these misleading letters originated from one of Sikhala’s enlisted lawyers, Masarirevhu who wanted to grab the attention of the public and that of the international community for his political gain.
“Masarirevhu is actually playing a game of chess using Sikhala as his pawn. As I’m speaking to you, Sikhala is in good health and news of his deteriorating health actually came as a surprise to him and this has led him to not trust some of his lieutenants within CCC as they are being used to push agendas which will likely backfire on him within the justice system,” said the source.
The source said that Masarirevu was doing a disservice to Sikhala as he was spreading falsehoods about the Zengeza East legislator’s prison stay.
“Masarirevu is doing a disservice to Sikhala. Yes he is Sikhala’s spokesperson but he must speak only the truth. Instead of fighting for Sikhala’s cause, Masarirevu is now using Sikhala’s predicament to spruce up his political image. He is using Sikhala as a launch pad of his political career. However, these shenanigans might cause some legal complications and prolong Sikhala’s stay in remand prison,” added the source.
Furthermore, the source reprimanded Masarirevhu for lying that Sikhala was being ill-treated in prison and that he was being denied medical attention. The source said such lies would not help Sikhala’s cause but will bring unnecessary attention on Sikhala’s case.
Meanwhile, Sikhala is still in remand prison waiting for his trial on charges of causing political violence in Nyatsime during the funeral of Moreblessing Ali. Prosecutors have repeatedly argued that Sikhala was not a good candidate for bail as he has breached previous bail conditions.
