As investigations for the Murewa altercations continue, ZRP has confirmed the arrest of 67year old Never Chimutashu, who is believed to be part of the suspects involved in the Murewa altercations.
In a press statement to the nation, ZRP Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi has advised the nation that investigations to bring the suspects to book are still on-going; however one suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.
“Reference is made to the ZRP Twitter message dated 7th January 2023 on the alleged Murewa Political violence incident.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of one of the suspects, Never Chimutashu (67), who is expected to appear in court in due course.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is still conducting investigations, with a view of accounting for other suspects in this case,” said Assistant Commissioner Nyathi.
Chairman and Member of Parliament (MP) for Murewa North, Hon Daniel Garwe has also implored ZANU PF members to exercise peace and tolerance towards other political parties. He also urged party members to be patient as ZRP conducts its investigations.
He warned ZANU PF members to remain alert for opposition members who false flag themselves with a sole agenda of tarnishing the Party’s image.
“Vanouya mumisha pakati pehusiku, vosiya vadyara honye, hwosara huchitushuka tozonzwa kuti ZANU PF. Isu tiri verunyararo, ndino kukumbirisayi mese kuti ngatigareyi murunyararo, ngatiregereyi mapurisa navanamazvikokota vekuongorora vaongorore isu tichiita basa redu uye tisazoda kuita zvatisinga kwanise kuita (CCC comes amongst us and commits crime, Once discovered the blame is put on us (ZANU PF) because this is our home. We are not violent people and we do not condone violence. Let us now allow ZRP and other authorities to conduct their investigations whilst we go about our daily duties, let us not be tempted into engaging ourselves into tasks we cannot solve),” said MP Garwe.
Meanwhile political commentators have however expressed unease over the “quick to blame tactics” that Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) continues to practise. They encouraged CCC interim national spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere to refrain from using inflammatory language and allow ZRP to finish their investigations first.
