Chamisa lose confidence in ZINASU

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has lost confidence in the current Zimbabwe National Students union (ZINASU) leadership and is planning to lead in the formation of a new students’ movement organisation.

This came out at a meeting held at Harare Sports Club on 8 December which was attended by sixty students from various local universities.

A source from ZINASU who spoke to this publication said that Chamisa has suspicions that the student’s board pays its allegiance to MDC-T and Douglas Mwonzora hence it cannot be trusted.

“Since ZINASU announced that it was an apolitical organisation, Chamisa has been giving a cold shoulder to its leaders. At a recent meeting with university students, Chamisa exposed his dislike for ZINASU when he announced that a new student organisation to be named Students for Change Movement was to be formed to campaign for CCC ahead of 2023 elections,” said the source.

The source added that some CCC leaders were on the ground mobilising for the formation of the new student’s movement.

According to the source, last week CCC youth leaders, Ostallos Siziba and Joanna Mamombe held a meeting with University of Zimbabwe (UZ) Students Representative Council representatives at UZ and confirmed that a new student’s board was in the making.

In that meeting, ZINASU spokesperson Lenon Mazoro called for the dethronement of ZINASU President, Benot Ncube accusing him of being averse to demonstrations. Mamombe and Siziba concurred that Ncube should be removed and they tasked ZINASU UZ Chapter chairperson, Emmanuel Sitiwa to lead the revolt against Ncube.

Meanwhile, there are reports that ZINASU leadership was fed up with CCC lack of political strategy and have accused that party of lacking alternative policies.

Another source who spoke to this publication said that ZINASU national member, Ebenezer Kudita has accused Chamisa of lacking mobilization skills ahead of the 2023 election. Kudita reportedly told Chamisa that CCC was set to be humiliated at the next polls as it has failed to penetrate ZANU PF’s rural strongholds.

The source added that Kudita further blamed CCC and Chamisa of not rendering adequate support to ZINASU programs and said that the student’s board was recently whitewashed during the recent Bindura University SRC elections because it lacked resources.

Efforts to get a comment from CCC interim national spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere and ZINASU’s spokesperson, Mazoro were futile as their mobile phones were not reachable.
