Controversial journalist-cum-Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) ally, Hopewell Chin’ono has indirectly predicted a land slide victory for President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the upcoming 2023 harmonised general elections.
Chin’ono implored youths to register to vote as he indirectly suggested that they were CCC and Chamisa’s last hope against ZANU PF, which he also described as fast gaining foothold of the opposition party’s urban territory.
“ZANU PF narrowed the urban gap and crashed CCC in rural Mberengwa where it got 726 votes against CCC’s 81 votes.
“It is most worrying for the Presidential election where CCC needs to win big in urban areas and narrow the gap in rural areas in order to win but the opposite happened.
“So if young people don’t register to vote, Chamisa will not win in 2023, it is as simple as that,” said Chin’ono.
Chin’ono further proclaimed that if the ruling ZANU PF party was to maintain its current progressive form, then CCC is headed for a heartbreak.
“If these results are replicated in 2023, it will be heartbreak for the opposition. Something is not working, it needs to be fixed urgently,” he said.
Political analyst, Reece Munetsi has, however, pointed out that, whilst the ruling ZANU PF party had managed to employ campaign strategies such as National Cell day for its mobilisation strategy, the same cannot be said about the opposition CCC party.
The Mugwazo scheme which the CCC party had banked on to penetrate the rural areas believed to be ZANU PF strongholds has failed to make an impact.
Munetsi was also quick to point out that it is absurd for Chin’ono to encourage Chamisa to bank on the youth as such a move has also been the cradle to CCC’s factionalism. Chamisa and his deputies namely Tendai Biti and Charlton Hwende are at loggerheads as the later feel that the former intends to replace the old timers.
According to Munetsi, CCC’s woes are premised on the party’s lack of structures. He proclaimed that for as long as that opposition party has no structures, youths who register will also prefer to join ZANU PF because the later has well pronounced structures and ideologies.
