The highly hyped Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) fundraising event held in South Africa last weekend flopped dismally as only 900 rands was raised.
The event which was addressed by CCC co-vice president, Lynnette Karenyi-Kore, was attended by a paltry crowd with almost a quarter of attendees being members who had travelled with Karenyi-Kore from Zimbabwe to South Africa.
According to the source, the organisers of the event were embarrassed when a paltry crowd turned up and they tried to convince Karenyi-Kore to postpone the event but she refused.
“Only a few people turned up for the fundraising event that was held in Kwa-Zulu Natal last Saturday. The event was supposed to raise funds for the 2023 election campaigns but only 900 rands was raised. However, some members in attendance promised to donate at a later date,” said the source.
According to the source, the event organisers were aiming to raise approximately 100 000 rands but were left with an egg on the face when less than a thousand rands was raised.
The source added that the event organisers were blaming the weather as it was raining last Saturday in Kwa Zulu Natal.
“The event organisers are not accepting that the event was poorly organised, instead they are blaming the weather for disturbing the event as it was raining on that day. However, even if it was not raining, the event was still going to be a flop because of factional fights currently manifesting within CCC,” said the source.
The source added that the few members in attendance also booed artist, Cucsman as he wanted to give a speech instead of singing. Cucsman was eventually told by Karenyi-Kore to sit down as the crowd was shouting at him to stop addressing them as he was not a recognised senior member of the CCC.
Meanwhile, efforts to get a comment from event organisers, Tsungai Jani and George Mukudu were futile as they did not respond to messages send to them through WhatsApp.
