‘Chamisa afraid of elections’

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa is reportedly developing cold feet as the 2023 plebiscite draws near and is contemplating to boycott the elections.

A source who spoke to this publication said that Chamisa was contemplating to boycott the forthcoming elections citing an uneven playing field, although the real reason is fear of being humiliated by ZANU PF at the polls.

“Chamisa is afraid of the forthcoming elections and is contemplating to boycott them to save face. The Mugwazo rural mobilisation strategy has failed to yield positive results and Chamisa is now seeing the reality of CCC’s failure against ZANU PF. Very soon, you will hear him lamenting that the electoral field is not even, to justify his withdrawal from 2the elections,” said the source.

The source added that the massive endorsement of President Mnangagwa’s candidature by various affiliate groups such as Men Believed ED, Young Woman for ED, Varakashi for ED, among many others have left Chamisa shivering and afraid to contest against President Mnangagwa. According to the source, Chamisa was also contemplating going on a regional tour to urge SADC and the African Union leaders to compel the Government of Zimbabwe to forego elections and instead form a Government of National Unity.

“Chamisa also has another card up his sleeve that of forcing a Government of National Unity at all costs. He desperately wants to be in the Government and is expected to visit some African leaders to urge them to compel the Zimbabwean Government to forego elections and form a Government of National Unity,” added the source.

Meanwhile, there is chaos within CCC as members of that party are accusing Chamisa of failing to restructure the party with few months left before the next elections. CCC members are arguing that it is becoming difficult for that party to mobilise in the absence of a substantive leadership. Currently, Chamisa is the only substantive office holder, with the rest occupying positions on interim basis.
