Chamisa selling a damp squib

by Bruce Zvandasara

It has been revealed that the much hyped constitutional court challenge of the 30 July election results where Nelson Chamisa is challenging the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for declaring President elect, Emmerson Mnangagwa as the victor is a damp squib.

Chamisa gave an impression that he had all the evidence required to make up the case. On his twitter account, Chamisa wrote, “I’ve just finished going thru the evidence per our agents & V11 forms from across Zimbabwe. We WON this election emphatically. ZEC’s figures are falsified & inflated in favour of the outgoing President. We are ready for the inauguration & formation of the next govt #Godisinit”

It has been discovered that the MDC Alliance did not field polling agents in 2500 polling stations across the country in the just ended elections. This has raised a lot of concern and questions from other political circles as it is boldly clear that Chamisa does not have the V11 forms from these polling stations.

There are fears that the ConCourt challenge may fail to take off amid indications that there is so much pressure coming from other Alliance partners and political sympathisers on the lukewarm case Chamisa is building against ZEC.

Interesting to note is that Chamisa has come up with a legal team that is filing a legal case to the ConCourt challenging the ZEC results. It is believed that Chamisa is being ill-advised as his case need to have all the V11 forms to come up with a solid strong case against ZEC.

According to sources privy to the developing legal case, Chamisa stated that some top political officials in the MDC Alliance and other opposition political parties sympathising with Chamisa are considering distancing themselves from him (Chamisa) citing his evasive character and a bleak future in the legal challenge.

According to a high profile source within the MDC Alliance who asked for anonymity because of the sensitivity of the story, a lot of Alliance partners have approached Chamisa advising him to accept defeat as it will help build his political profile for the next election.

“Chamisa should not follow in the footsteps of the late MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai of disputing election results but should grow up to a statesman character who is gracious in defeat,” he said.

“Such would help in building up Chamisa’s profile prior to the 2023 presidential elections,” he added.

It is reported that NPF is happy and have joined other contenders in endorsing the election results. Due to divisions that have plagued the political outfit, impeccable sources report that the interim leader, Eunice Sandi Moyo is contemplating re-joining Zanu PF after her party NPF has been plagued by divisions.

Addressing the media today in Harare, Chamisa’s leading lawyer, Advocate Thabani Mpofu told the auditorium that they had a secret weapon which they were going to use in the court challenging ZEC.

Interestingly, Mpofu denied to exactly divulge to the media on when his client would want to submit the case to the ConCourt. Instead, Mpofu said that they were going to submit their case papers within the expected date which closes on Friday 10 August 2018.
