The Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) has promised to punish any party involved in the leakage of examination papers and will put in place close monitoring measures of schools as well as all examination centres before and after examinations.
Following various reports of the leakages of examination papers, the council state a myriad of stern measures to be taken into action to avoid leakages of papers
“The Council has zeroed in on schools/centres and localities that are considered hot spots and has intensified the monitoring of these centres. It is emphasised that the council has the mandate to de-register schools and centres that are caught engaging in examination malpractice,” reads part of the statement issued out by ZIMSEC
The Council on their main Twitter page, advised on the nullification and disqualification of all students who might be found on the wrong side of the council’s examination requirements.
“Candidates who are found to have had pre-access to examination materials will have all the results nullified. School authorities who aid or abet such practices will also be dealt with decisively,” said ZIMSEC.
ZIMSEC also stated that it was also in working with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and Security operatives to make sure that the rules and regulations of the examinations were being thoroughly followed by schools and students sitting for the examinations.
“The council is working closely with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and security operatives to reign in on infringements of the rules and regulations governing the ongoing examinations,” ZIMSEC said.
Teachers, parents and candidates were further encouraged to be very watchful and observant of any unscrupulous activities that might occur prior to examinations. They were also advised to report any cases of misconduct that are seen to be threatening the integrity of the examination board.
ZIMSEC also thanked and acknowledged all those who took part in reporting the unorthodox acts which involved the leakages of examination papers before they were written, challenging them to continue reporting any unwarranted acts.
“We would like to acknowledge the vigilance of candidates, teachers, and parents who have alerted Zimsec and the authorities of cases of malpractice where they have suspected them and implore all stakeholders to remain on high alert to assist all efforts being made by the council to stamp out the malpractice scourge that is threatening the integrity of our examination system,” said ZIMSEC.
Although there have been several reports suggesting that several papers have been leaked. Authorities have only confirmed leakage of Mathematics paper.
