Zanu PF Central Committee member, Justice Zvandasara’s residence was robbed on Saturday in a case suspected to be politically motivated.
Zvandasara lost in the primary election to Tongesai Mudambo in a bid to represent Harare North in the House of Assembly.
The Harare Post had it on good authority that four armed robbers wearing police uniforms and masks, stormed into the Central Committee member’s residence in Glen Forest. The gang enquired about an unnamed white man whom they accused of sponsoring violence in the constituency.
The gang also went on to enquire about the whereabouts of Zvandasara who was not at the residence at the time. They reportedly produced two rifles, a pistol and a bolt cutter and went on to accuse the family of voting for Zanu PF in the just ended harmonised elections.
The gang started insulting the family. Ironically the gang knew some of the family members by names.
Property worth over $10 000 and some cash were stolen. The case was reported to Borrowdale Police Station. However, no arrest has been made yet.
The robbers are suspected to be MDC Alliance activists who are now using a new strategy to attack known Zanu PF and security officials following the skirmishes that erupted in Harare soon after the elections which saw President Emmerson Mnangagwa winning by 50.8% against his closest rival, Nelson Chamisa of the MDC Alliance who trailed with a 44.3%.
The elections have since been declared free and fair by most of the observer missions who were in the country. The MDC Alliance is set to challenge the results in the court within the remaining two days of the seven-day-window period.
However, there is a sharp division within the Alliance on how to challenge the results with the likes Amos Chibaya, Charlton Hwende, Happymore Chidziva, Murisi Zwizwai and others preferring a confrontational approach that involves unleashing a campaign of terror on Zanu PF to force the later to a Government of National Unity. The group has already revived the opposition’s terror group, the Democratic Resistance Committee which is led by Caston Matewu, the National Assembly member for Marondera Central.
The other group, which comprises of, among others, Douglas Mwonzora, Theresa Makone, Lynette Karenyi-Kore, Elias Mudzuri and others are against both the violent protests and the court challenge. Reliable sources say that the group is already strategizing on how to oust Chamisa from power in the impending congress.
