The Douglas Mwonzora led MDC-T has recalled Bulawayo City Council Ward 3 Councillor and former deputy mayor, Tinashe Kambarami for crossing floor to the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party.
A letter dated 14 September 2022 from Local Government Minister, July Moyo to Bulawayo’s Town Clerk, Christopher Dube gleaned by this publication, confirmed the recalling of Kambarami.
“I wish to notify you that I am in receipt of a letter from the Movement for Democratic Change stating that Cllr Tinashe Kambarami of Ward 3 has ceased to be a member of the party.
“In terms of section 278 (l) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe as read with section 129 (l) (k) his ward is now vacant. Please advise Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) accordingly,” reads the letter from Minister Moyo.
Kambarami has hogged the limelight for months following his previous ouster and subsequent bounce-back in an unending drama at Bulawayo’s Town House.
Sources within Bulawayo Town Council told this publication that Kambarami had become a problem and a hindrance to the administration of Bulawayo City Council as he was always at loggerheads with Mayor Solomon Mguni and Town Clerk Christopher Dube.
The source said that Kambarami was abusing his proximity to Nelson Chamisa to bully other councillors and undermine the authority of the Mayor.
“The recalling of Kambarami is a relief to other councillors and employees at BCC. Kambarami lacked professionalism and he was violent towards fellow councillors. At one time he shouted vulgar during a full council meeting and threatened to beat Mayor Mguni and Town Clerk Dube. He always boasted that he was untouchable as he was a friend to Chamisa,” said the source.
The source added that Kambarami, whose suspension was uplifted last month by High Court Judge, Justice Martin Makonese, failed to follow due process for him to be reinstated as the City’s deputy Mayor and he just assumed the duties of a deputy mayor without getting a brief from the mayor.
Meanwhile, Kambarami was also reportedly causing problems within CCC Bulawayo structures as he was fighting the chairmanship of James Sithole. Kambarami and his other colleagues are pushing for the ouster of Sithole as the provincial chairperson and are accusing him of being sympathetic to the MDC-T.
