Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) bigwigs have been labelled as political cowards who are afraid to risk their political careers by contesting in rural areas where the ruling ZANU PF party commands a huge support.
A CCC member who spoke to this publication said that it was disheartening to see that party’s heavyweights stampeding to contest elections in urban areas where their chances of winning elections are slightly high.
“CCC so called heavyweights are political cowards. They are afraid to contest in the rural areas because they know that they are ZANU PF’s strongholds. They always stampede to contest in urban areas where their winning chances are slightly high. Whereas, if the party wants to be competitive against ZANU PF, it must deploy its bigwigs to the rural areas and compete against ZANU PF’s heavyweights,” said the source.
The source added that the likes of Job Sikhala, despite coming from Bikita, have never contested in his home area opting to alternate his political choices between St Marys and Zengeza West constituencies.
“Look at Sikhala, he hails from Bikita but he has never contested in that area. He knows that he will be whitewashed by ZANU PF. Even Chamisa during his days as a legislator, he has never attempted to contest in Gutu, his home area, opting to concentrate his political activities in Kuwadzana,” said the source.
Meanwhile, there are reports that Chamisa’s directive for that party to skip the holding of primary elections for both parliamentary and local authority candidates for next year’s elections has irked some members who view the directive as undemocratic.
CCC members are reportedly complaining that the move would benefit Chamisa’s blue-eyed boys at the expense of some members who have grassroots support.
Efforts to get a comment from CCC interim spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere where futile as her mobile phones where not reachable.
