The recently resuscitated Cold Storage Company (CSC) (Pvt) LTD will see 2 000 cattle being slaughtered per day.
This development will boost the beef export production and increase the country`s revenue.
Speaking during the 24th Cabinet meeting yesterday, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa said that CSC is set to increase its cattle slaughter capacity from 60 cattle per day to 2 000 cattle.
“The rehabilitation of the Bulawayo plant is now complete, and it was re-opened by the Honorable Vice President, Dr C.D.G.N. Chiwenga on 18th August 2022. This has paved way for an increase in slaughter capacity to 2 000 cattle per day, from the previous 60,” she said.
Minister Mutsvangwa said that the repairs for the Bulawayo Canning Plant have commenced. Adding that infrastructure at the three ranches has been rehabilitated and modernized, furthermore the CSC Board is now in place, and is seized with accelerating the rehabilitation of assets and mapping of a business strategy for the organization.
She further informed that CSC initiated a livestock feedlot operation and a micro-finance facility of US$36 million, which at full capacity will be able to finance up to 120 000 head. At the same time, she revealed that CSC was negotiating export contracts for beef products to the United Kingdom, the European Union member States, Malta, and Middle Eastern countries, Asian and African markets.
Samson Brands has been incorporated to market the CSC products on the local market.
Meanwhile, the CSC was resuscitated through a concessionary Rehabilitate, Operate and Transfer (ROT) Agreement. This was a Livestock Joint Farming Concession Agreement which was subsequently signed between the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Boustead Beef (Pvt) Ltd on 22 January 2022.
