Citizens have hailed Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) for arresting and charging Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator, Mayor Wadyajena and four other accomplices.

Wadyajena and four other suspects who include top Cottco officials, Pius Manamike, Maxmore Njanji, Fortunate Molai and Pierpont Moncroix Director Chiedza Danha, were arrested by ZACC on charges of fraud and money laundering amounting to US$5 million. They have been remanded in custody pending court proceedings.

Mr Tawanda Saruchera, a member of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has hailed ZACC for exercising zero tolerance to crime by arresting Wadyajena who is a ZANU PF legislator. He also said ZACC’s decision to arrest the five suspects showed that there was no selective application of law.

“The arrest of Wadyajena and accomplices creates confidence of good governance to the public. ZACC has demonstrated that they have taken heed of President Mnangagwa’s call for all state agents to guard this country jealously from corrupt elements both within and outside Zimbabwe,” said Saruchera.

Recently during the commissioning of Murewa Civil Registry office, President Mnangagwa said the Second Republic had declared a zero tolerance to corruption stance especially to officials who abuse office powers.

Other senior officials who have faced the chop include former Minister of Health and Child Care, Obediah Moyo who was axed and charged for criminal abuse of office over the unlawful awarding of a US$60 million contract for COVID-19; former Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement, Douglas Karoro was also fired by President Mnangagwa for conduct inappropriate for a Deputy Minister. He was also arrested for defrauding the Presidential Input Scheme of US$73 300 worth of inputs and he is currently out on bail.
