Ugandan-based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has applauded the Government of Zimbabwe for championing youth empowerment drive.

The director of an NGO, Youth in Agriculture Uganda (YIAU),Richard Green said that yesterday in a Whatsapp group that he created and added the youth desk of the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Development.

Green also added the members of his organization in that group.

Green said that YIAU would embark on an exchange programme with Zimbabwe and Uganda so as to enhance their skills in agriculture.

“We will be sharing knowledge, ideas and skills in agriculture with our Zimbabwean counterparts and be ambassadors in marketing agricultural products across the continent,” said Green.

Green highlighted that the WhatsApp group would ensure cooperation between Zimbabwean and Ugandan youths in agriculture.

He revealed that he participated in agricultural initiatives in Africa especially East and Southern Africa, where he got to learn about Zimbabwe`s youths in agriculture activities adding that he established working relations with the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Development.

Green applauded the Government of Zimbabwe highlighting that it is taking the lead in facilitating youth empowerment projects unlike in Uganda whereby private entities were the ones leading in youth empowerment projects.

Meanwhile, Kajengo welcomed the development of having an exchange programme with Uganda and pledged to maintain the working relationship established between Zimbabwean and Ugandan youths in agriculture.

The relationship between Uganda and Zimbabwe in strengthening youth empowerment programmes is in line with the country`s foreign policy, premised on the engagement and re-engagement drive which is one of the key pillars of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).
