The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa has lashed out at that party’s elected legislators and councillors for failing to hold ‘Thank You’ rallies in their respective areas.
A source who spoke to this publication on condition of anonymity said that Chamisa held a Second Voter Mobilisation Review workshop meeting last week where he rebuked CCC Members of Parliament and councillors elected in the March 2022 by-elections for failing to go back to the people to thank them for the electoral victory.
According to the source, Chamisa angrily told the attendees that they should not be big-headed as their electoral victory was because of his popularity.
“Chamisa lashed out at the legislators and councillors who are yet to hold Thank You Rallies. He told them that they should be aware that their victory was necessitated by his popularity with the grassroots structures. Mukuru akapopota achivaudza kuti ngavasafunga kuti vakavhoterwa nekuti vaidiwa asi kuti vakahwina nekuti vanhu vanoda iye Chamisa,” said the source.
The source added that at the same meeting, Chamisa bragged that he was the lifeblood of the CCC party, hence members should respect him. He told attendees that they were just the same as the Biblical donkey that carried Jesus on his triumphant entry to Jerusalem but the centre of attraction was Jesus not the donkey.
Chamisa reportedly further bragged that he would engineer his electoral victory in next year’s presidential elections. However, he said he doesn’t want a scenario where he becomes president of a hung parliament.
The source added that Chamisa directed sitting CCC legislators and councillors to revamp their mobilisation strategies saying that they can only be confirmed as that party’s candidates basing on how they would have mobilised people. Furthermore, Chamisa threatened that he would not sign nomination papers for those who were yet to hold Thank You Rallies.
Meanwhile, a CCC legislator accused Chamisa of forcing CCC legislators to hold Thank You Rallies so that he could be the guest speaker at those rallies. The same legislator added that Chamisa risks alienating himself from the rest of the legislators due to his dictatorial behaviour.
