Following the unfortunate loss of lives in Harare yesterday, a number of analysts and institutions have voiced their concerns over the behaviour of some politicians.
With a lot of impatience over the announcement of the presidential election results, the MDC Alliance has acted true to their pre- election threats that they would cause anarchy and mayhem in the country if the results were not in their favour.
They threatened to make this country ungovernable through unorthodox means like what was witnessed in the capital yesterday. Lives were lost for politicians who are in their hotel rooms nursing the wounds of a thumbing defeat.
A prominent political analyst, Alexander Rusero in an interview with the BBC, remarked that no politician is worth dying for no matter the level of allegiance you pay to that particular person.
“It is regrettable that some people can really prefer to die for some politicians at the expense of their families,” said Rusero.
He added that “although it is unfortunate that lives have been lost, the situation could have been avoided entirely had the Alliance supporters not descended on the streets.”
He called on the leaders of political parties to give statements denouncing any form of violence that may come as a result of the 2018 harmonised elections. Rusero posited that whatever separates people, they should be guided by the spirit of Ubuntu.
“We are all Zimbabweans who should not be divided along party lines,” he said.
The much anticipated presidential results are, however, expected to be released anytime from now after the legal recourse on two of the candidates is cleared and after the chief election agents of the presidential candidates are done with verification and collation of the results.
