Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who is also the Minister of Health and Childcare, has stressed that his ministry would ensure that the welfare of health professionals is improved.
Speaking during the African Health Expo conference in Cairo, Egypt Vice President Chiwenga said that his goal was to improve the conditions of service and salaries in the health sector.
A contact in the Ministry of Health and Child Care who spoke to Harare Post said that Vice President Chiwenga had called for investment in training of health workers at the African Health Expo.
“Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has emphasized the need to improve the welfare of the health professionals. He said that his Ministry would ensure that the medical employees` welfare would be well catered for because of their services which they contribute to the nation which never go unnoticed,” said the contact.
The contact revealed that Vice President Chiwenga would discuss issues on what developing countries should do to address medical situations at the conference.
The three-day conference which started yesterday was organized by the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement (UPA).
More than 350 companies operating in more than 102 countries are expected to take part in the conference where they will showcase the latest medical technologies and outline the best practices for sustainable healthcare on the African continent.
The Government remains firmly committed to addressing the welfare concerns of civil servants. In a situation that reflects a listening Government, all civil servants have been cushioned from the runaway economy by paying them part of their salaries in US Dollar. Government also pays school fees for teachers’ children. Previously the doctors and other professional healthcare practitioners where provided with accommodation in the form of apartment blocks in Marimba.
