MDC Alliance members, last week seriously assaulted a ZANU PF member in Mashonaland Central causing him some permanent body injuries.
A source who spoke to this publication said a gang of seven MDC Alliance members led by former MDC Mazowe Central legislator Shepherd Mushonga’s son, Nhamo Mushonga, assaulted a ZANU PF Takawira Party District political commissar, Isheanesu Meda, injuring him in the process.
“Nhamo Mushonga led other six men to Meda’s house in Kodzwa village at around midnight last week. They started banging Meda’s door while calling him to get out of the house. Sensing danger, Meda escaped through the window and hid in the bush,” said the source.
The source added that the seven MDC Alliance members drove away from Meda’s homestead to Nzvimbo growth point. Meda followed them and asked Nhamo Mushonga why they were looking for him in the middle of the night.
Mushonga told Meda that he should come back and join the MDC Alliance and help in mobilising people in the constituency to vote for Shepherd Mushonga in the 2023 elections. Meda told Nhamo Mushonga that his heart and commitment are with ZANU PF.
According to the source, Mushonga was angered by Meda’s response and he together with other members started assaulting Meda. They threatened to kill him and burn his houses. Meda had to run for dear life, although he sustained a broken leg, broken arm and bruises all over his body. Meda has already reported the assault case at Chaona police station in Chiweshe.
Commenting on the incident, political analyst Tafara Shumba said the MDC Alliance is slowly morphing into a terrorist organisation as violence was now entrenched in the party.
“The MDC Alliance is slowly becoming a danger to society. Last week Nelson Chamisa’s aids assaulted ZANU PF Chivi District Coordinating Committee chairperson Samuel Magonde. It’s like the MDC Alliance are on a mission to cause mayhem in the country. They also fired shots in Masvingo and if this behavior is not nipped in the bud, the country will soon degenerate into chaos because of the party,” said Shumba.
Efforts to get a comment from MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere were futile as she was not picking up calls.
