…..as Chamisa grooms Mamombe as heir
Chaos has escalated in the MDC Alliance Youth Assembly as youths are pushing for urgent elections to fill the vacancies left by some leaders who skipped the country to avoid prosecution for their crimes.
A source within the MDC Alliance confided in this publication that the Youth Assembly Chairperson, Obey Sithole, Deputy Organising Secretary Netsai Marova and Organising Secretary Godfrey Kurauone, have all illegally skipped the country to avoid prosecution for their crimes and this has created a leadership crisis within that party.
“There is a leadership crisis within the Youth Assembly. The Chairperson (Sithole), Organising Secretary and his Deputy (Kurauone and Marowa respectively) have skipped the country and this has crippled the operations of the Youth Assembly. To make matters worse, our Secretary for Labour and Social Welfare Makomborero Haruzivishe is serving his time in prison and the leadership is reluctant to fill the gaps left by the departure of these members. As the youths, we are demanding urgent elections to fill these gaps,” said the source.
The source added that efforts to fill the gaps left by the departure of Sithole and others were being frustrated by factional fights currently bedeviling that party.
“Efforts to fill the vacant positions are being frustrated by the factional fights within the party. Factional leaders are pushing to have one of their own to occupy the influential positions of the Youth Assembly Chairperson and the Organising Secretary. The president’s (Nelson Chamisa) appointment of Cecelia Chimbiri as the acting Youth Assembly Chairperson is being opposed by the Maruva cabal which wants the whole Assembly to be dissolved and have fresh elections,” added the source.
Insiders said front runners for the chairmanship post were Cecelia Chimbiri and Gift Ostallos Siziba, all from Chamisa’s camp. The Maruva cabal was yet to settle on the ideal candidate. For the Organising secretary post, the Chamisa camp was pushing for either Denford Ngadziore or national youth secretary for elections, Erick Gono to replace Kurauone.
According to the source, Sithole and Marowa are now living in Norway. They face charges of criminal nuisance and faking abduction respectively. Kurauone is believed to have gone to seek greener pastures in America, leaving the organizing department crippled ahead of the 2023 elections.
The same source further said the tension in the MDC Alliance was also being escalated by Chamisa’s clandestine plans to groom Joana Mamombe as his successor.
“Chamisa is grooming Mamombe to eventually succeed him as the MDC Alliance leader. Stories of Mamombe and her colleagues being abducted and tortured were dramatized to raise Mamombe’s political profile. However, seasoned members within the party are opposed to the move a development that is threatening to tear the party apart,” said the source.
Efforts to get a comment from the MDC Alliance spokesperson, Fadzai Mahere were futile as her mobile phone was not reachable.
