Chief Ernest Sachirahwe of Mutasa District has described President Emmerson Mnangagwa as a principled, mature and humble leader who is capable of leading Zimbabwe into the promised land of Canaan.
Speaking to Harare Post at a Zanu PF rally in Mutare today, Chief Sachirahwe said President Mnangagwa is a tried and tested leader who has seen it all.
"This is not a secret that since he got into power, President Mnangagwa has done a lot to rescue the economy. Industries are opening, infrastructure is improving, agriculture and the mining sectors are growing. He has managed to restore our relationship with the international community which is good for our economy.
"We, however, appeal to our Government to assist us with irrigation equipment so that we continue with our farming activities even beyond the rain season. We are blessed with Odzi, Nyamazi and Nyadera rivers. What we only need is the irrigation equipment so that we can make use of the water," he said.
Chief Sachirahwe also appealed for Government assistance in compelling local timber companies to engage in corporate social responsibilities. He said these companies must plough back to the community in which they are extracting resources from.
"We are endowed with a lot of timber and a lot of companies are taking our timber without us benefiting. Some areas benefit through Community Ownership Trusts like Zimunya, Mhondoro Ngezi. That is what we also want. We, therefore, appeal for Government assistance in that regard," he said.
