A high ranking source revealed that the MDC Alliance is reportedly working with a number of political officers stationed at some Western embassies accredited to Zimbabwe as part of its ongoing efforts to effect regime change ahead of the 2023 plebiscite.
Additionally, it was revealed to this publication that the MDC Alliance had been holding clandestine strategic meetings with some influential individuals stationed at the US, Netherlands, UK, Australian, Swedish, Canadian and Switzerland Embassies.
The high ranking MDC-Alliance official revealed that at the US Embassy, the party is working with former MDC Director for Policy and Research, Charles Mangongera, as well as Sizani Weza to mobilise resources, obtain strategic advice from Embassy officials and to put in place programmes that include student mobilization and rural penetration. According to the source, Mangongera and Weza had hijacked the affairs of the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) with a view to causing disharmony in the country. The senior MDC-Alliance official has also revealed that Mangongera and Weza have been creating the impression among students that they can facilitate scholarships for them if they become MDC Alliance activists.
According to the MDC-Alliance official, Mangongera and Weza, had also promised to arrange scholarships for activists like Dr Peter Magombeyi and other MDC-Alliance activists such as Joana Mamombe.
It was further revealed that Mangongera also works with Vongai Zhangazha, a Political Officer at the Canadian Embassy in mobilizing resources for the MDC-Alliance. Zhangazha is reportedly Mangongera`s wife.
It was exposed that students affiliated to ZINASU and the newly formed Enlightened Students of Zimbabwe (ESZ) are frequently called to the US Embassy where they are given instructions to stage sporadic demonstrations, to openly defy Government laws and make the country ungovernable. Mangongera and Weza are closely working with ZINASU leader, Takudzwa Ngadziore and newly elected University of Zimbabwe Student Representative Council president Lennox Machoko to mobilize students to be sympathetic to and vote for the MDC Alliance in the coming elections.
The high ranking MDC-Alliance official further revealed that the MDC Alliance was also working closely with Fortune Gwaze, a political officer at the Netherlands Embassy in Harare. Gwaze is reportedly fundraising for the MDC Alliance using his strategic position as an Embassy official. It is reported that Gwaze, together with UK Embassy based Tsitsi Mhlanga, are vigorously fundraising for the MDC Alliance to close the gap created by the donor fatigue that has plunged the party into financial difficulties.
Some donors withdrew their funding to the MDC-Alliance due to gross mismanagement of funds. The funds the MDC Alliance is using for its mobilization programmes and voter registration campaigns are reportedly being sourced by Gwaze and Mhlanga.
According to same, these Embassy staff, particularly those at the US, UK, Netherlands and Sweden Embassies are also being used by the MDC Alliance to tarnish the image of the Government, justify sanctions and cause the international community to view the MDC-Alliance as the only option to the so-called crisis in Zimbabwe.
