Leader of Transform Zimbabwe, Jacob Ngarivhume, has been accused of desperately using the clean-up campaigns he is currently conducting in Harare to seek limelight and have an edge over other opposition leaders.
An impeccable source within the MDC Alliance confided to this publication that Nelson Chamisa and his other party leaders are not amused by Ngarivhume’s clean up campaigns as he is negatively portraying the opposition-led Harare City Council as a failure.
“The party (MDC Alliance) leaders are not in support of Ngarivhume’s clean up campaigns. Not because they don’t want a clean City, but they see the clean-up campaigns as a strategy by Ngarivhume to expose failures by the MDC Alliance councilors to manage the City. This is the reason you have not seen our party leaders endorsing the campaigns,” said the source.
The source further accused Ngarivhume of stealing the MDC Alliance’s concept of Tsvaira Zimbabwe to gain political mileage.
“The MDC Alliance had plans to clean our cities through president Chamisa’s Tsvaira Zimbabwe programme. Ngarivhume is now hijacking president Chamisa’s programme and present it as his to the people so that he could get cheap political mileage,” added the source.
The same source further said that the MDC Alliance is yet to decide on Ngarivhume’s desire to rejoin the MDC Alliance because most people view him as a divisive character with a long term goal of dethroning Chamisa.
“Early this year, Ngarivhume expressed desire to rejoin the MDC Alliance. However the National Standing Committee is yet to decide on whether to readmit him because he is viewed by many people as a discordant character who could wrestle power from Chamisa,” said the source.
According to the source, Ngarivhume was heard badmouthing Chamisa accusing him of being a weak candidate with no capacity to face ZANU PF’s President Mnangagwa in the next elections.
“Ngarivhume is wolf in sheep’s clothes. At one time he was heard saying that Chamisa is a weak candidate to face (President) Mnangagwa in 2023 elections. He appears to like Chamisa during the day, but during the night he would be busy de-campaigning him. The MDC Alliance does not need a two faced political partner like Ngarivhume,” said the source.
Ngarivhume’s party Transform Zimbabwe was one of the several parties that converged to form MDC Alliance in 2018. However Ngarivhume withdrew from the Alliance soon after the 2018 elections and since then he has been working hard to position his party as the best political alternative in the country.
